Welcome to Lost City Farm
Thank You from Lost City Farm – November 2015
It has been three years since we signed our lease on the one acre plot that has been home to Lost City Farm. What a journey it has been, from our first brainstorming notes on paper napkins to a living and growing farm in the middle of town. Sometimes it’s still hard for us to believe that we have been at it for three seasons now. None of this would have been possible without the support of the land owners and their families. They helped make our ideas real and provided us with the opportunity and space to learn the art of farming. The last few years have been some of the most challenging and rewarding years of our lives and we have become more dedicated to our work as the seasons cycle through from year to year.
Over the last three years we were able to feed our community through our weekly onsite farm stand, at local restaurants and in the produce aisle at the Great Basin Community Food Cooperative. We have provided community education from workshops and tours at the farm to lectures at UNR, and as farm conference presenters. At the start of all this, we didn’t really know how big of an impact we would have on Reno and we certainly had no idea how big of an impact the farm would have on our lives. We feel proud of what we have accomplished in such a short time. We also want to thank all of you; for believing in and supporting small farming, local food, local business, and most importantly us. A farm is only as successful as the community that supports it.
Times are changing and land values are on the rise. Our local economy is on an upswing which is great for many reasons, but unfortunately has forced us to turn a new page for Lost City Farm. With a heavy heart we regret to inform you all that Lost City Farm is unable to renew our lease at our current location. The property is now on the market and due to its ideal Midtown location we imagine will be sold sooner than later.
This however does not mean Lost City Farm is closing our doors for good, we still plan to farm in the city of Reno and are on the hunt for a new home. Over the years we have met and overcome many obstacles, this is just another one for the books and we need your help with this new challenge we face. We are looking to long-term lease a new urban property that is a half-acre or larger. Ideally the potential property would have a fence and water, possibly power too. The main thing is we would like to be near the city center as being urban is something that is important to us. If you have any leads on land, ideas, etc., please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Again, many thanks to all of you for the years of support. We hope to see all of you again soon!
Toni and Lyndsey
